SERVE. It’s what happens when we break out of self-centeredness and think of someone else. When Jesus’ close friends asked Him who would get to sit next to Him when His kingdom was established, what they were really getting at was, “Tell us who you think is the greatest of your disciples.” Each one was convinced they were the greatest and best of his devoted followers.
Jesus’ answer shocked them all. “The one who is the greatest, is the servant of all.” As He often did, He turned their world upside down, and redefined greatness. It was how He lived His own life -- taking a towel and a basin of water and washing feet. The Leader, the head guy doesn’t snap His fingers and summon them to take care of His needs -- rather He meets their needs by being selfless amidst their selfishness.
At Crossroads we echo Jesus’ call to all His followers to take up a towel and serve God by serving others.
We believe every Jesus-follower is a minister.
We believe everyone is a ‘10’ in some area. You excel at something which God wants you to do.
We believe that the Holy Spirit has given every believer a spiritual gift -- a capacity and power to do something that is beyond your natural abilities. Each of us should discover what we should be doing to serve God and start doing it!
Whether you’re a behind-the-scenes kind of person, or an outgoing people-person, we have jobs just waiting for someone like you to volunteer to do. Here are some examples:
- First Impressions Ministry - helping with hospitality needs in the lobby, greeting newcomers, preparing refreshments, helping people with kids get settled, duplicating cd’s of services, etc.
- Tech Team - audio, video, computer, lighting -- we always need additional people for this growing, important ministry
- Children’s Ministry - helping out in CrossTown, our ministry with kids. Kid’s Worship on Sunday mornings and Awana on Wednesday nights.
- Building maintenance/upkeep
- Crosswalk Students Ministry
- L.I.F.E. Groups leaders and hosts
We periodically offer Class 301 to help people discover their gifts, but one of the most effective ways to discover what you need to be doing is to just experiment with things until you find out what you’re good at and what you enjoy the most!
